Why get verified on TikTok?

In short, a review on TikTok can help establish any brand you want. It can also advance your career whether you are a musician, actor, writer, or even an entrepreneur. But here’s a more detailed breakdown of why it’s worth getting verified.

authenticity

Do you know how there are always social media accounts posing as NBA insiders at close of trading? With that checkmark comes credibility. Users know you are who you say you are.

Exposure

There is a rumor that thanks to TikTok’s algorithms, verified accounts are popping up more often and getting more likes. These likes could potentially lead to more followers.

trustworthiness

Verified accounts often interact with other verified accounts. Being verified means that your favorite stars or influencers on the app may actually be responding to your comments and DMs – or even your requests for business partnerships.

How many followers do you need to be verified on TikTok?

This is not a fight club where everyone knows the rules. TikTok’s verification process is not that clear. There are no direct thresholds that must be met in order to be automatically verified. Some TikTok accounts have hundreds of thousands of followers but no tick mark.

Instead, TikTok uses its own secret verification system. Basically, staff look for and place checkmarks to reward users for high quality, popular content. But there are some data points that TikTok is looking for that can help your case.

Of course you can bypass all of that and just … be super famous. There are verified celebrities on the platform with zero posts (* ahem * Tom Cruise).

How to get verified on TikTok

Aside from Jack Black or Justin Bieber (or any other famous person with the initials JB) there aren’t many shortcuts to get verified on TikTok. (And no, you can’t pay for it. Beware of scammers!) But here are some tips and tricks to help you get noticed by TikTok employees handing out the coveted tick.

Step 1: Find your niche and keep producing

Establishing a brand requires popular and authentic content every day. Once you are known for something, it will be easy to attract, hold, and grow your following. That’s why it’s important to develop catchy, engaging material and keep your foot on the pedal.

It helps keep up with the challenges of TikTok and the hashtags that come with it. It’s a proven fact that TikTok users like brands that participate in TikTok trends.

And since music is one of the most important factors at TikTok, you’ll want to keep up with the songs and artists that are trending on the platform. Including these in your videos can be an easy way to capitalize on their popularity.

You should also research your own videos. This can help measure the impact of your content and show you what publish times are getting the best results.

Step 2: Get featured in the media

It turns out that traditional star-making platforms are still relevant! Who knew

But it’s not just traditional forms either. Yes, it definitely helps to get featured in a magazine or newspaper, or on TV and radio. But appearing on online posts, YouTube clips, and podcasts with other highly respected YouTubers is also a great way to get your message out there.

TikTok star Lubalin, for example, has got significantly more followers after his interview with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.

And guess what? All of these places are also looking for content. You just have to give them a reason to showcase you. It helps to follow relevant news or trending topics. If others think you have something important, funny, or interesting to say about the news of the day, it will increase your chances of getting featured.

Step 3: Get verified on another social media platform

You can request verification on social networks such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. That doesn’t mean it’s necessarily easier to get verified, but it is a little easier.

Each of these websites have their own characteristics that they want users to have in order to review:

  • Facebook likes to review accounts that are professional, official representations of a brand.
  • Twitter recently announced new criteria for verification. Under the new rules, accounts must fall into one of six different categories. Twitter has also announced that it will open the rules in 2022.
  • Instagram is a tough nut to crack. Essentially, only accounts that have a good chance of being impersonated are checked.

If you tick any of these websites, you can be verified on TikTok. This is because it lets TikTok know that you are a person with a real seal of approval on the internet. And you can link these accounts to your TikTok account.

So get these verification processes rolling!

Step 4: go viral

This may seem obvious somehow. But most TikTik accounts have at least one major virus explosion before being scanned. When you get to the “For You” page of the site, you can give your followers and viewers a big boost and get you on TikTok’s radar.

High activity and engagement are two of the most important metrics TikTok looks for when verifying accounts. Going viral checks these boxes well.

While there isn’t a scientific formula for going viral on TikTok, there are a few ways you can help your case. Here are some ways to do this:

  • Start the video in a catchy way. It’s fast on TikTok. You need to make sure that your video gets noticed in the first few seconds. Or users just scroll away. This TikTok user’s video about friends’ reactions to your ex opens up super catchy right away.

  • To tell a story. Not everyone is a dancer. Those who can convey their point of view in a funny or concise way have an advantage. But..
  • Keep videos as short as possible. TikTok takes the average playback time into account when assessing quality. Viewers are more likely to watch an 8-10 second piece as a whole than a one-minute video. This perfect video by Mayim Bialik shows a sugar glider and is only 12 seconds long.

  • Reply to the comments. This can help you connect with potential followers and ensure that more people see your video. You should try to build a community with every post.

Step 5: follow the rules

Like any social media platform, TikTok will attempt to verify accounts that comply with community guidelines and terms of use. If you break these rules, moderators will report your account and this may affect your chances of getting verified.

One last tip

Even if it doesn’t sound intuitive, don’t focus too much on the review. If you follow the steps and meet the points above in a natural and authentic way, you will get there. Just don’t forget to have fun too.
