May’s local pack-o-meter data is in, showing basically flat growth across all but one category. People also ask:

According to Traject Data’s historic SERP database of ~ 60 million US queries, PAAs have increased nearly two percentage points in the last month.

The monthly jump isn’t that interesting; It’s the steady upward trend of the past year.

These data suggest a number of possibilities, including:

  1. Google has continued to improve its ability to join related queries and understand the searcher’s intent
  2. Publishers have followed this trend and have more responses on their website, so Google’s algorithms have more content to refer to
  3. Top ranking results for Head Term may have lost a lot in value as Google hijacks searchers by better aligning their intentions with PAAs

All in all, it should make for a fun summer of SEO.
