Google launches AdSense Labs, first choices are fewer adverts and including cell inline adverts

Google today announced the launch of AdSense Labs, a new part of AdSense that allows users to explore experimental features for the website advertising system.
Google has filled the new section of AdSense under the tab “Optimization” with two functions. However, in some cases, certain tests may not show up depending on the type of website it is working with.
The first is interesting – you can actually tell AdSense to display less advertisements on your website.
“Showing fewer ads reduces the number of ads shown to your users in exchange for a negligible decrease in your sales,” wrote Google software engineer Emma Burrows in a blog post. “The goal is to remove at least 10 percent of the ads that appear on your website (1 percent or less of your sales) by preventing your users from seeing low-value ads.”
The other test automatically places 320 × 100 ad units on mobile sites.
“With this new ad format, you no longer have to write the logic to dynamically add ad units to your page, we do it all for you,” wrote Burrows.
There are alternatives to AdSense, but the scale of advertising giant Google is worth considering, and Google has a lot of experience testing and tweaking experimental features. Gmail and Google Maps both have their own labs areas. Even Google itself once had labs. For marketers, this is likely a program worth keeping an eye on.
