Google launches Tamil language assist for AdSense and AdWords
Google India today launched Tamil language support for AdSense and AdWords in Chennai, which allows advertisers to run Tamil ads.
Jaivir Nagi, head of online partnerships at Google India, said the soft launch last month had received an overwhelming response and had 900 publishers on the platform so far.
The company will study the market for three months to understand where content is coming from and to reach publishers in smaller cities through workshops and awareness programs. Before Tamil, Google India launched the platform in Hindi in 2014 and three months ago in Bengali.
Digital advertising is expected to reach 30,000 crore by 2021, and the local language will be around 10,000 crore.
Currently, digital ads in local languages make up 5 percent. According to Nagi, this offers great potential for platforms like Google AdSense and for Tamil content publishers.
Nagi said as the opportunity grows, plans are underway to launch the platform in more regional languages.
