How you can Maximize Your AdSense Earnings Utilizing Amazon CPM Advertisements

If you are using AdSense on your blog or website, you must have looked for other AdSense alternatives to increase your sales.

In most cases there are two other alternatives:

  • High quality CPM advertising networks like Conversant Media (formerly ValueClick), Exponential (formerly Tribal Fusion), Technorati, Adtegrity, Advertising.com and more
  • Other creative ad units like in-text links, pop-unders, pop-overs, interstitials and more from networks like RevenueHits, Intellilinks, Clicksor, Chitika and others.

However, in most cases, both of the above options may not have worked for you.

Most likely, your website has been rejected by high quality CPM advertising networks due to the high traffic and special visitor requirements.

And you’ve likely turned down other types of ad units to keep the user experience on your site, or those creative ad units stopped paying for more than AdSense.

Here’s a great option to increase your AdSense earnings without affecting the user experience on your website: Amazon CPM Ads.

Here are some tips for implementing Amazon CPM along with AdSense to maximize your sales:

1) Create Amazon CPM Ads with a target CPM higher than your AdSense CPM

Amazon CPM allows you to define a target CPM and passback ad code when you create an ad unit.

A minimum CPM rate can be specified with the target CPM. Amazon will only show ads that can meet your target CPM rate.

The Passback ad code allows you to provide an alternate ad code, such as your AdSense ad code. If Amazon is unable to meet your target CPM rate, Amazon will respond with the Passback ad code and display an AdSense ad instead.

These are great options because you can work with Amazon CPM ads without implementing new ad slots or sacrificing revenue.

2) Add product affiliate links to increase CPM rates

Amazon affiliate links and Amazon CPM ads are not directly related. However, you can help increase your CPM rates with affiliate links. If you can think of relevant products that your visitors might be interested in, you should include an Amazon affiliate link for that product in your content.

For example, if you’re writing about healthy eating habits, you may want to include links to the top three smoothie mixers on Amazon.com. By adding relevant affiliate links, you increase the likelihood of generating affiliate revenue on top of CPM ad revenue.

By directing traffic to relevant and specific Amazon product pages, you are also helping Amazon to better target the CPM ads to your website visitors.

This will help increase your fill rates, ad relevance, and better retargeting, which in turn translates into higher revenue.

3) Improve affiliate links on related products

Amazon’s “Item Ordered Report” and “Profitability Report” provide a good insight into what visitors to your blog or website are buying from Amazon.com.

These reports provide a great insight into new, unique, and relevant products that you may not be aware of.

When you find such products, add affiliate links to these products on your website to introduce new relevant products to your visitors, increase affiliate click-through rate, CPM fill rates, and increase sales.

In addition, Amazon offers a special ad unit called “Native Shopping Ads” that contains relevant product recommendations in a customizable ad unit that you can place in your content.

You can allow Amazon to show dynamic recommendations, or you can choose specific products to show in your native shopping ad block.

Native shopping ads fit seamlessly into your content. Improve your click through rates. and improve your visitor experience with relevant product recommendations.

4) Add additional ad units

This is obvious, but worth a mention as it can really increase your sales. With Google AdSense, you can add up to three AdSense ad units per page.

With Amazon CPM ads, you can add three additional ad units to your page without replacing an AdSense ad unit. While six ad units per page may not provide the best user experience, you may be able to add 1, 2, or all 3 additional Amazon ads that come with a creative website design and layout.

If your website design allows it, adding ad slots for Amazon CPM ads can significantly increase your overall revenue from the page.

If you’re only using AdSense on your website, Amazon CPM ads are a great way to grow your sales while working with a strong brand that you know will deliver high quality ads and improve the overall user experience on your website.
